Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Prepare your pond for winter with the Ice Chaser Premium Cast Aluminum Floating Pond De-Icer. This thermostatically-controlled, 1250 watt heater operates automatically during freezing temperatures and is safe for all ponds, plastic, rubber, or concrete. Indestructible cast aluminum design provides durability, safety, and efficiency. A pond heater is necessary to keep a vent hole open in the ice to release harmful gases from underneath. Even the smallest of holes will suffice. By allowing your pond to completely freeze over during the winter months, the harmful gases produced by fish waste and plant decay cannot escape the ice, becoming deadly to your costly fish and plants.

I have been very happy with the pond de-icer. It has worked very well especially when the temperature dropped to near zero.

A good product. First one lasted over five years in all winter Northern location. Not too bad.

1 out of 5 stars BEWARE of Amazon's third party sales   October 26, 2007

I ordered this item because of its great reviews, but unfortunately never received it. This is not a review of the product, but of Amazon's poor customer support when it comes from purchases that they list as 'third party'.

I have been ordering from Amazon for seven years and have always been impressed with their customer support. But after calling to find out why I had still not received my order, I was told by their new call center in the Philippines that I would have to contact the third party directly. They also said they have no control over any part of that transaction and need to contact the seller (which I thought I was doing when I called Amazon).

I won't order from Amazon again until they bring back the customer support they were known for. In the mean time all I have to be concerned with is all my personal information being lost or stolen from some third party company located somewhere in the South Seas.

5 out of 5 stars Great Stuff   March 8, 2007

The weather in my area got really cold since I got the deicer but I didn't have to go out to the pond to break the ice because the deicer was working great. I only had it for a month or so but I am more than happy with the product so far. My fish are doing just fine.

5 out of 5 stars Pond De-Icer a Good Thing   January 13, 2007

I have 100 gallon plastic in ground pond which is only 18" deep and is approximately 4'W x 7'L. Currently it's -6 below and none of the Pond has iced over. I see our fish directly under the heater when it's cold. I keep the water circulating 24/7 in the pond with a pond pump which also has a fountain head in the middle of the pond. Recently we had over 36" of snow and the pond was burried in a drift. There was a 9" or so portion of the pond that was kept open. Most of the pond was slush in the water but my fish came through it all with no problem. I think it was due to the combination of the circulating water and the heater as well. I would recommend this pond heater to anyone who has a plastic preformed pond. None of the pond has froze even in sub zero temps which I find amazing and I'm sure this Pond Heater has helped keep it Ice Free.
