Terrific tabletop fountain December 14, 2007

This fountain is of much higher quality than other table top fountains I have owned or seen at anywhere near the price. It looks good, with nothing plastic or fake looking. The decorative rocks are real, plenty are included, and there is a nice variety. The fountain is easy to assemble. The underwater light produces a pleasing effect, except when looking down on the fountain from above. The water flow is adjustable during initial setup to avoid too much noise, especially if you intend to leave the fountain on overnight as a nightlight. (You can adjust it whenever you want, but the pump is underwater, so you need to remove the platform with the rocks to get at it.) The sounds can also be adjusted somewhat by the placement of the decorative rocks. There is no on/off switch, so the unit needs to be run off a switched outlet or a powerstrip with on/off switch so you don't have to unplug it all the time. You can't really tell from the specs or picture, but the water bubbles up between four upright stones that make a sort of square chamber. Then it pours over them and seeps over the rocks you arrange around the perimeter. It is a nice effect. I recommend this unit wholeheartedly.

This is a very lovely fountain. The texture of the rock and the colors are beautiful. The river rocks that come with it are highly polished, have great colors and the overall effect is quite elegant. The halogen light is bright if you view it from the top, but you are not likely to do this except if you put on a tabletop where you have a need to keep looking for other things.
The picture online is a bit misleading because the light is not nearly as yellow as it appears. In fact, in my bedroom it casts a very lovely light that illuminates some black and white art prints that I have. Overall, it looks great and it's a nice size for my large chest of drawers.
Another feature of this product is an adjustable waterflow. This makes it very nice for use during meditation. Something that I found odd, however, is that there is no on/off switch. You need to put it on a powerstrip or else unplug the AC adapter from the main cord running from the unit. Some people might find this a nuisance, so I thought I would mention it. In general, I have been very happy with Alpine fountains even though they cost more than other brands. In this case, you get what you pay for.
