Works wonders!! July 19, 2006 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I have had this product in my home for a few months now and I absolutely love it! I can't believe how great it works using only water!
First of all I had some stains (red paint on a beige carpet and grease stains on my white stovetop!!) I thought I would never be able to remove, especially after using many other products, I used the spray bottle and they came out perfectly with just a little elbow grease! I also use this product everyday to clean things like countertops, appliances, my son's highchair, bathrooms, and windows. I use it to spray into diaper pails and the areas where my dogs sleep to take away the odors, also in other rooms in the house just to give them a fresh clean smell.
I use the cleaning bowl every time I come home from the grocery store to clean all of my fruits and veggies, then I clean out the drawers in the fridge with the spray bottle and put all my food right in and ready to eat. I find my fruits and veggies last longer too.
Having 2 young sons at home I find this product is wonderful because I don't have to worry about them breathing in harmful chemicals, it works great on their toys and I can even spray them down too!!
I highly recommend this product to anyone who is contemplating buying it, you won't be disappointed!!

idea seems sound - but unit didn't last even 24 hours July 18, 2006 77 out of 87 found this review helpful
I purchased this unit from Sharper Image after having checked into the validity of oxygenized ("ozone-activated") water on the web; the validity seemed real. And the two batches of fruit I washed didn't become moldy sitting out in a bowl (now for 2nd week) as unwashed citrus can; so that little 'anecdotal' home test may lend some credibility. The problem was that after doing 2 batches of produce, the unit failed (Tersano coached me that the unit was acting normally, I think it failed; and, I want to be clear - I didn't overload the unit - the two batches consisted of 7 small tangerines and then 8 more small tangerines; the third batch where the trouble started was 7 baby summer squash, same size as the tangerines; I also used cold water from the tap as instructed, and filled to the fill line exactly - and I would add that I made especially sure of these things with great exactitude after the problems started; I even tried it with only 4 small/baby squash). Upon the third batch and forever thereafter I got the F1 error message. I called the help # (Tersano) and they said that the F1 message means that the sensor ("[a finetuned microchip computer]"brackets for paraphrasing) was indicating that contamination wasn't brought down to the 100% pure level (the readout on the unit gives you a % number that increases until it gets to 100% whereupon it stops and then runs a timer for the produce to sit in the oxygenated water for 2 minutes; my unit consistently got stuck at values between 97 and 99% and after being stuck there for a couple of minutes gives the alarm beep, flashing red light F1 mssg whereupon your only option is to reset the unit). I was asked if the produce I was cleaning was stuff that grows close to the ground or berries as these will consistently cause this behavior in the unit - a very serious flaw in my opinion - because to have to respond to an alarm beep and F1 error message for all batches of berries, lettuces, herbs, cabbages, celery, etc, etc, etc is irritating. I was also told that for such produce, you just have to run it through the system several times (they said, "you shouldn't have to do more than 5 or 6 times"). I was still getting F1 after the eighth run-through. At this point I began to suspect that they were full of $h**, so I ran a bowl of plain, cold tap water and still got the F1 error business. That's when I decided to dry it, repack it, and return it for a full refund - which I did. Some final thoughts/details: 1. I am practically addicted to gadgets that are technically oriented to make life easier/cleaner/safer - and so the day I was due to take it back - I hooked it up and tried it again. It started it's cycle and shut down after several seconds and would never do more than this with several attempts. I never dropped or harmed the unit in any way; perhaps I just had a faulty unit, although after reading the other review about F3 and F1 errors, I have deep suspicions about the resilience of these units. 2. The 'ozone smell'. The unit comes with a 'filter' that you must use; it looks like a small Brita filter. From what I understand ozone will only last for about 15 minutes. I noticed that the 'ozone smell' lasted for hours. I am wondering if the 'filter' imparts an ozone-like smell? 3. Finally - there is some data available that suggests strongly that ozone is toxic to the human organism (either to ingest or to breathe). This shouldn't be a problem with this unit as the 'ozone' in the water dissipates after about 15 minutes - but if that lasting smell isn't fake - but actually ozone, then I'm breathing it for a couple of hours after using the unit. Makes me wonder. I wish the unit worked and held up. I love the idea of this device - but based on my experience, the unit's resilience is doubtful and its integrity are in question.
does it's job but breaks July 15, 2006 11 out of 17 found this review helpful
looks like everyone has the F3 issue with this. according to the manual it says F3 error occurs when a the bowl/spray bottle is moved from its place but i did no such thing and i made sure that the spray bottle was firmly in place. shame on tersano (which came up with a great concept) for such poor quality control. and shame on sharper image for not doing their homework and retailing this shoddy machine. i give it 2 stars cus it did do its job for the first 15 minutes i had it.
Deliver as promised, however, there are some defect issues. July 10, 2006 11 out of 16 found this review helpful
The product worked as promised, however, my first "2" units kept showing "F3" error messages.
When I returned to SharperImage, their sale rep. told me that the company "Tersano" has realized the problem and when customers return, just replace them with new one.
I got my "THIRD" one 2 days ago, which arrived to store on July 7th. They did fixed the "F3" problem, but now, July 9th, it starts showing "F1" error messages.
The reason I gave 2 star instead of 1 is because it's a good concept and when it worked, it did what they advertised. Unfortunately, there are still bugs that they need to fix. I will return my "THIRD" one, and get my refund. I guess "Third time's a charm" does not work on this product.
Do your research before taking the plunge June 29, 2006 29 out of 42 found this review helpful
Before I start, I have to state that I do not own this product and merely want to make a comment on the general state of this technology. As I am obiligated to rate this item per Amazon review rule, I am give it a neutral "3" and this rating in no way reflects positively or negatively on what I think of this particular product.
Using ozone to sanitize food product is in fact a proven technology as advertised, and it has been used to treat water and food for decades. There is no doubt that this technology works! I am sure you can find many articles discussing this and the technology has been patented as well. I personally think it is a wonderful idea as it functions without leaving any traces unlike normal disfectants but consumers should consider some of the possible drawbacks.
First and foremost, as a scientist myself, I'd love to find out how this product is generating ozone so easily, and I am sure they are guarding this as a trade secret. (Background: ozone is normally made by essentially electrifying oxygen, a process that consumes a tremendous amount of power. Think the smell in the air after a lightening storm, that's it.) So how long and how much power does it take this system to create a batch of ozone water? And just how much ozone is generated? I ask this not to cast doubt on this system but because ozone is an irrantant to skin and your respiratory system and typically recognized as a toxic gas. So too much may not be a good thing.
Secondly, ozone has a rather short life span, so you can't just make it and use it later. How short you ask? About 15 minutes at room temperature when dissolved in water. It's longer at colder temperature and shorter at hotter temperature. And after that, what you have it just the water you start with (minus the germs of course).
I am not here to endorse nor bad-mouth this product, but merely to present facts and hope someone who has their hands on this system will do a comprehensive review on just how effectively it works.
